A CARING TRADITION

The Calgary Family Services Society is a non-profit organization with a proud tradition of community service. The roots of our organization date back to 1910 when a private agency known as Associated Charities was formed in Calgary to assist the poor. The society has undergone numerous changes since that time, but our commitment to work for the advancement of a civil society has remained strong throughout all these transitions. Of course, this commitment has been expressed in a number of different ways over the years, but it always has been, and remains, the cornerstone of our long and rich tradition.

We also have remained true to our longstanding practice of including as broad a spectrum of Calgarians as possible in our mission. Since its earliest days, the Society has sought to make a difference in all sectors of the community. We continue to create innovative responses to social issues by engaging people of diverse backgrounds to work and collaborate with other agencies as well as all segments of the population.

The society's organizational commitments are reinforced by the membership's respect for Board governance, community participation, interagency collaboration, program relevance, diversity, easy access, accountability and sound fiscal management. These stand out as our beacon of hope as we prepare for a second century of service to the community's most vulnerable citizens.
